What do you do if you’re left review notes on an audit that you’ve rolled off of and are now busy with a new client. Are you supposed to just work on the other audit while also staffed on another?

Yes

Unfortunately, yes unless you handed it over to someone else. Whenever I role off a project with outstanding items, I make it very clear to my team what they are.

You also have little to no perspective on the responsibilities of a manager. We're not reviewing "timely" because we don't want to.

Instead of reviewing your work we're probably addressing review notes for your peers on another engagement because they also think their responsibility for their work is dictated by the schedule 🤪

Yes. And don't ignore my emails to address them for 2 months

You’re wasting your time and energy with this thread. You could have already be done with some comments by the time you posted this and read the responses.

If your times not scheduled then you don’t have an obligation to address them. I reallocated mine to the appropriate team members, let them know and called it a day

This is bogus. Own your work.

You should because it looks better on you. Many people don't finish what they were working on when they roll off, but it looks much better when you do.

like

Yes - short answer.
At least at my firm, RNs are included in the budgeted time we are given. If you bring this up to a partner, they will make you feel like crap for not finishing the first engagement within the time frame.

like

Lol oh the joy of being a first year audit associate.

To be honest, my first year I had to the same question. But, generally, your job prior to rolling off is to wrap up all loose ends, communicate status with your seniors/manager and tell address all your open review notes.

This is a valid question though. I think you’ll appreciate and understand the responses in a few years.

like

Yes unless you told the team. This could also hurt your performance review due to not communicating effectively.

like

Depends. If they’re zero value add “I just need to leave you notes to make it look like I reviewed” notes, just leave them. They’ll get deleted during archive. If they’re actual notes that impact the audit getting done, you’ll have to address them or let the team know you won’t be able to.

Best practice is to meet with the senior/manager prior to rolling off to talk game plan on how to address- most likely, there will be some for you and some that will be allocated to someone still on the job. If they left you the notes after you rolled off, that’s a little different. Given it’s too late now, I would take a quick pass through, address all the easy ones and set up time for the remaining ones to talk through how to address quickly and efficiently. If you’re seriously strapped for time, bring that up to both teams and see if you can arrange a few hours to wrap up. Either way, make sure your current team knows because it can cause issues if they don’t know you’re working on other things!

It seems like some context and details might be relevant here. Otherwise, your just going get a bunch of generic and vague answers. What were the circumstances under which you received these review notes?

Nope,

Depends- are the review notes wayy after you finished your work and just a poor review- then no and tell them it’s not in your schedule anymore/tell your new manager. If you got the work to them and they reviewed within reason, then yea- that is life buddy.

Yes, welcome to public accounting.

Tell them to figure it out 😂

Finish your work - everyone understands that you will be clearing review notes while working on another project.

You should assess the amount of time needed to clear the comments. Go to your current audit supervisor and ask for time off of your current job to address those comments. If the supervisor will not allow the time off, tell the prior audit supervisor and then they can work out your schedule or it will go up to the next level for a decision.

Will I seem like a jerk and risk being able to boomerang if I put in notice before big audit client? I won’t know I got the job until 2 weeks before then and new job would start when the audit starts.

Often feel betrayed by my Ps when they question my work in front of the client, only to be proven otherwise. Happened many times and I don’t know how to change this - my integrity and work quality is questioned publicly and after much due diligence it gets proven that I did really good. What do I do?
