McKinsey & Company Hi everyone. Hope all is well.
Recently took the McKinsey & Company game (not sure if I have an interview yet but preparing nonetheless). It’s an entry level business analyst position and an entry level digital position and was wondering if anyone wanted to case prep with me. I’m willing to work on anyones time zone. (I’m located in Sydney, Australia).
Hii Guys, Could anyone give me some clarity on the below point. I have cleared 2nd round of technical interview at Deloitte, but my candidature is still showing as interview in progress at Deloitte careers page. I had a discussion with HR on this and she told me that next process is pending from management side. It's been almost 10 days since from 2 nd round of interview. How much more time does it gonna take, any idea? Or is it normal. Please help me with this 🙏🙏 .Deloitte

This thread is going to be everything that is wrong with consulting 🔥
For one, we had more successful interviews.
Kidding aside, not sure you’ll get that much introspection from anyone. Doing so would acquire acknowledging the premise that were individually more qualified. Tough ask for an inherently insecure group
1) you have to get lucky. Almost everyone here would have blown their interview on another day and there are a ton of people at the Big 4 who could have been here with a pinch of fairy dust luck.
2) on average I've seen McKinsey people be better talkers than big 4: better at conveying ideas quickly and responding to questions. It's a mix of good communication skills, quick thinking and advanced bullshitting
Using my MBA class as a proxy:
+ those who came from MBB seemed to be more confident, friendly, and self-assured
+ those who came from D seemed to be more bookish, competitive, and vocal about their impostor syndrome
Lol at “born with it.” Definitely not that. We’re hardly Beethoven
We tend to hire the slightly less polished but more quanty types. Can see how some of us may not fare as well in interviews (🤓) but otherwise haven’t noticed a difference. McK likes to make a point of hiring decorated scholars, class presidents, athletes and ex-military so make of that what you will.
I concur on the interview practice part. I did 60 cases to prep and my best friend did 70.
Was with a big 4 prior to bschool. Now with BCG. The pace is much faster at BCG. There is more independence at BCG. More “impressive” resumes at BCG. And in general, I’ve found people think faster at BCG.
People were more polished at the big 4. Had better work life balance. Had more variety of resumes and hence better diversity.
🍿
@op - perhaps you are making a presumption of them being different. That is a very labeling view of the issue.
It’s all relative, I was at a state school and crushed it without having to try too hard. I went to Columbia and everyone was the top 5 in their class and I was slightly below the middle of the pack
I think if you’re good enough at case it mostly comes down to fit/personality
Definitely agree with McK2. It's luck. Obviously we prepped for the interviews, but at the end of the day most Big4 could have been in MBB and vice-versa, given luck and preparation.
Is it innate logical or analytical capabilities? Do you think it is something you're born with or can you sharpen and develop your mind with focus? Any honest input would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe it just boils down to how much you prepped for the interview and the cases lol 😂 doesn’t seem like rocket science to me. I barely practiced cases and knew I wouldn’t be able to just hack it and bullshit like I did at ACN 🤷🏻♂️ that’s why I’m where I’m now. You interviewed with all 3 and have a good enough profile. Practice more
^Good for you. I wouldn’t do that much prep for anything
I think I did 2 to prep for Deloitte. Didn’t know what MBB was at the time
Really more polished at Big 4? I wouldn’t have expected that.
When I graduated B-School in 2009 it was all about the case interview performance
Not looking to start fights. Just very curious
P1 - curious what you are attributing the different outcomes to (getting into MBB vs. not)? Luck, preparation or else?
