What is it like working as a foreclosure attorney? I have been looking for a change from my current post for a while. Have done mostly personal injury work with some estate planning, but I am interviewing with a firm looking to take on someone earlier on in their career to train them up in the area of foreclosure. I am intrigued by the position because it would be more transactional, and I prefer that side to the litigation side, but I was just wondering if anyone could share their experience

I’m a foreclosure attorney who represents creditors only. Foreclosure attorneys draft and argue many MSJs. I was a litigation attorney before and I find this to generally have much less voluminous discovery, which I like. Opposing counsel are usually congenial because they want your client to make arrangements for their debtors. Typically there are few disputes about whether payments have been made (they have not been paying for months). Issue is how to resolve.

Sometimes servicers (clients in mortgage companies) don’t realize how many cases you are juggling and are unreasonably demanding and even threatening if there cant be immediate answers. You are still in court in my state a lot. Sovereign Citizens who don’t believe in the mortgage system or even in government take up too much time though.

I interviewed at Amazon for a PM role in Dec. 2020 and was ultimely rejected. I was told I have to wait a year to reapply. Fast forward to June 2022, another recruiter reaches out to me re: a PM role. I pass the screening interview, and move on to the virtual on site interview stage. I randomly get a call from the recruiter telling me there is now a TWO YEAR reapply policy in place so I'm not eligible to interview for any PM roles until Dec. 2022. Anyone ever heard of this policy? Seems strange

As a result of the moving was bumped off partner track. I’m looking at a great small firm that will be a practice change (but still litigation). I’m told they’re looking for someone with less experience and they’re skeptical because of my experience. It’s frustrating. How do I overcome this?

I’m not naive or fresh out of law school, but I’m at a point where I’m saying to myself “Why can’t I have it all?” I’ve been offered a job for more pay and less hours and I keep thinking to myself, what’s the catch? I know people will say no promotion potential or that’s not how it works…but what if it could? What if you make yourself valuable by still setting your boundaries? Why would we resent someone who has that opportunity?
