Maybe have the different careers that one could pursue with a degree in accounting. Highlight the major duties and salary of each of the roles you come up with. One of the main reasons I selected accounting while still in HS was because it seemed to have great job security. People/companies will always need someone to do the work and there are so many different specialties once you get the basics down. Also, if the HS has an accounting class as an elective you can suggest they take it to get a bit more exposure. I took it my senior year in HS and it pretty much solidified my goals.
Thank you these are great ideas. The school does have an accounting elective for juniors and seniors, so I'll definitely suggest that.

You could also mention some of the exposure to different types of companies and industries and exit opportunities from public accounting to industry.
Great idea BDO1, I had no idea how many ways you could go with accounting when I was in HS.
Job security, remote work, ability to freelance or start your own business.
Various niches, industries and countries this knowledge can transfer to.
Ability to change career if you are so inclined.
I think this is the one. kids want the fun or important stuff to them. When COVID happened, a lot of people lost their jobs but accounting was unimpacted so you won’t have to worry as much about your next dollar. Continued progression in the public arena without excessive effort. 6 figures after 5-6 years currently which may be quicker by the time they graduate. Ability to work for any company they want and steer their career towards that (mention something cool companies like google, Fortnite or whatever kids like now a days haha)
With all that said, who knows if by the time they graduate robots take over tax returns lol
My biggest barrier was paying for school, so I would talk about different programs/scholarships that help pay for it and mention that you can get your associate's first at a community college if you need to. I wish I had known that was the better option (for me) back then.
this part. I wish I had known what my options were besides just taking out a ton of loans. I would recommend resources they can use even when you're done like the NABA website. If you live in a metro area there may even be pre-college networking events that at least the seniors could go to.
Thanks for sharing, I would start off by telling them that accounting is the language of business, and alot of successful entrepreneurs have accounting backgrounds. Ex.. Grant Cardon. Most. It’s a carrier that people can do well in it without being licensed, and every big company needs finance, tax, audit staff which all falls under accounting. They can literally work in every industry they want to be in by working in accounting.
I haven’t read the entire thing but this is on AICPA’s site for HS educators to help their students become more familiar with the field. Might be some good information.
