A great leader inspires you to emulate certain behaviors and skills they have that got them to their position.

A leader is someone who pays the bill at the team dinner

A great leader GENUINELY cares about their people. They'll go to bat for you.

A great leader LISTENS to their team.

A great leader doesn't make stupid promises and manage down the risk, they manage up the expectation and set up the team for success.

Good leaders create other good leaders.
They give their team members support, allow them to try new things, and to fail fast and forward.
They also make the time to know their people, understand their career ambitions, strengths, and they provide the necessary support to get them there.

Spot on. Of course hiring people with strengths that complement your teams’ weaknesses is a solid move short term. If you want to create leaders out of them, you do exactly what you said. Then your teams can have flourishing leaders that you can manage, then collaborate with as they go in the directions they then find for themselves.

I’ve found my favorite leaders to work for are the ones who enable me to do well and find ways to support me.

T3 firm reached out re: direct admit to the partnership with some runway to grow the practice. I am at a firm now where there aren’t bright line metrics to make PPMD, but think I could make it in 2-5 years. This would be a step down in brand, but might be better from a WLB and getting to start at partner. Haven’t had firm comp talks yet but range was well north of 50% increase in cash comp from current (plus LT equity, draws, etc). Anyone take $ over brand? what are some traps to watch for?

So my team currently uses onenote to house all of our SOPs and reference guides, but it’s becoming a monstrosity and it’s really hard to search and navigate. What programs do you use to provide your team with resources? Or is there some trick to onenote organization that we are missing maybe?

I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

I have been in management for the past 8 years and part of large corporations. I just recently joined a small organization that I have wanted to be a part of for the past 2 years, accepted the role of general manager. This organization knew that I don’t have general manager experience, no payroll experience, no experience setting prices, no purchasing experience and today, 6 days after starting, I have been asked to step down due to not being confident that I will be ready in 3 weeks…

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

I am not behind this decision & have voiced my multitude of concerns in promoting an employee who doesn't deserve it. HR is behind the decision! Thoughts on promoting an undeserving report?

Is there a corporate way to bring up to senior leaders that an IC is causing issues across multiple teams because they are demanding and also doesn’t collaborate well? My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?

Hi everyone!

After years of hard work, I just got my first position in a leadership role! Yay! I’ll be leading a team of 12.
I wanted to know if you had any tips for me, things you wish you knew before, or things previous leaders did for/to you that you found admirable or stayed with you. I want to make sure I’m there for them and want to be a leader they will remember positively.

Thank you so much!!
