What is the PTO like where you work? Unlimited? Set weeks per year?

For me it’s 17 days a year plus 2 days for every year worked. however that includes sick time

I work for myself, so I can take time off whenever I need to. Prior to starting my own practice, my last employer was pretty flexible with time off. I guess you could say it was technically "unlimited" because there was no set amount. As long as your patients were cared for, you could pretty much come and go as you pleased.

I started with just two weeks each year, plus sick time. The vacation increases after a certain amount of years, but it seems to take FOREVER to get more. I wish everyone would consider unlimited.

Where I have worked PTO accumulated by how many hours worked

31 days of PTO including sick days.

One week the first year, two weeks the second year, three weeks the third year, then it slows down for several years.

4 weeks year 1-3
And then about 5 weeks for the next 3

Anyone here ever struggled working at a private practice during your first year as a licensed counselor? What misconceptions do you think people have about social work? or therapy?
Mine is my family still believes that only "sick" or unhappy people need to see a therapist, so they don't understand why I go to one since I have a job and a family. It's oldschool thinking and pretty annoying tbh.

What do you guys think about apps like BetterHelp and Talkspace? Just seems a little fad-like and money grabby to me. Thoughts?

How many therapists (and social workers too!) see a therapist themselves? Do you find it helpful?
I think there's this myth that therapists have all their own sh*t figured out, and for me at least I know that's far from true (hopefully it isn't just me). On the contrary, I think we should be leading by example!

Hello, I’m an LMSW in Michigan. I have 15 years of experience in the field as a clinician, supervisor, and an administrator. I am feeling burnt out and unsure of my future. I have worked mainly in the Community Mental Health and the VA Health systems, hence my fatigue. I’ve flirted with private practice work in the past, but my spouse has been worried about not having affordable healthcare and benefits that each system provides. Is it worth the jump? Am I overthinking things?

Do you think all these violent and hate filled attacks are because people aren't getting the emotional/mental support they need, whether it's therapy at any age or help they needed but didn't get from a social worker as a child? My coworker is sure this is the case, but I honestly think there's actually something deeper wrong either with how these people are being raised as children, or how the warning signs these people give off are ignored or swept under the rug to save face.
