Not enough
I want a 40-50 hours a week job for at least 120-150k somewhere in LA or SD. I wanna gtfo NYC and this finance rat race, it's not for me.
I feel you, I thought I’d be fine cause I’m a “competitor” but now it’s more like even if you can, it’s not worth the stress (in my opinion) when you can live on a lot less in another city and still live very well
When I was younger, I thought of it from a salary perspective like you. But over time, it became a matter of what my financial goals were. When do I want to hit 100k net worth, then 500k, then 1M. Sure, salary is a means to get there, but if you're susceptible to life style creep, and continually getting larger apartment, cars, and stuff that doesn't add to your NW, then 150k could be no better than 75k.
^This. You hear of so many people who keep saying that what they make ($300k<) is not enough or that they’re breaking even.
Single vs Married? kids #? which city?
I want a salary that is not linked to my past salary. NY and SF passed laws prohibiting salary info inquiry. London is still surprisingly behind, with certain places asking for years of salary history.
In this context, career experiments, like joining startups can be very painful.
And I also agree with people who posted above.
