There are some but they’re extremely competitive when they open.
Tech, consulting, pe firms.

Consulting firm in-house, or jobs as consultants? I’ve looked at a few AGC jobs at consulting firms and the pay wasn’t anything special (and the clients are awful).
I'm in process with a few. The highest salaries I've seen are at public companies that have a very small number of lawyers (which, admittedly, is rare).
Also, the big names you've mentioned.
They seem to need people who can handle whatever is thrown at them, rather than one specific task. They also have usually been relying on expensive outside counsel and are looking to insource as much as possible, so you're really cost saving to them, even if expensive.

Related question: what’s the fastest way to figure out if comp for a position is totally untenable? I don’t want to waste a minute of anyone’s time for an amount I would never consider taking. I’ve had HR screeners ask for a range in initial calls, but is it kosher for me to ask or offer this information if it doesn’t come up?

I’ve been asking immediately with good success. “Before we move forward, I need a compensation range for this position. I do not want to waste anyone’s time if we aren’t in the same ballpark.” This has worked for HR/recruiting in-house and with recruiters.
