How often do you respond to emails from law students who want to learn about your firm/practice area? I get like a dozen requests right around OCI every year. Frankly I’m tired of speaking to them and answering the same boring questions, especially if I know they have a low GPA and no chance of summering at my firm, but I do feel bad saying no/ignoring them

I accepted a job offer in April to start a few months from now, post clerkship. All conflicts/background check went smoothly etc. Since accepting my offer, the firm has increased their 1st year pay across the board to be higher than my offer was (which was, at the time, what 2nd yeas got). When should I reach out to the recruitment attorney leading up to my start date? Or should I? (Haven't spoken since May) Should I bring up the salary or just assume its higher?

I have a new client who, I think, got bad legal advice from someone else she consulted with. From the information I have, there is no way she gets to the numbers I do. I work in a pretty small legal community. How do I address this delicately? My client is hung up on “but that’s not that X said” even though I’ve explained it multiple times and way. 2020 grad M&A/PE Associate in LCOL area thinking about moving to a ECVC/M&A boutique. I generally like the work I do and the people I work with, but I really don’t like the hours and the constant late nights and weekends. Currently on pace for 2250. Boutique I have been eyeing has billable hour requirement of 1500-1600 and comes with a 20-25% paycut. Is this a stupid idea and should I grind it out until I can move in house? Will this ruin my opportunities down the road?

Received an offer to lateral to a Big Law firm in my current state. Kind of my dream job. Recently decided with my spouse that we’ve had more than enough of our current state and we want to move out of state next year. There’s no local office for this firm where we’re going, and no idea if remote would be an option. Conflicted on whether it’s fair to take the position, although I really want it. Thoughts?

Why do partners tell associates to be cost-conscious when billing for certain clients when they can just cut your hours on the back end?

I saw that a client is posting a job for which I would be a perfect fit. They are essentially looking to add someone to their in-house that does what we do in the firm for them. Is it risky for me to apply? Or is it not that big of a deal?
