1. What commitments, if any, has your company made toward improving DEI?
2. What concrete steps has it taken toward those commitments?
3. What challenges do you think it faces in meeting them?
I hate saying this but generally when past heads of DEI are frustrated it indicates that to the company that DEI isn’t something to actually invest in but rather empty words. I would recommend looking at smaller, actual minority owned businesses instead. Or Golin, which actually believes it.
Good to know. I am genuinely glad to hear it. I do believe organizations can change. It was really unbelievable when they rolled out that silly three-co-CEO model and they filled all three slots with straight white middle aged men. Like they couldn’t find a POC or a woman for one of the slots? Even when they had a woman who had worked her whole career there and was more experienced than all three dudes. It was a slap in the face to her and showed the women on staff just where they stood. That was a final straw for a lot of people. It was too bad because I really loved the work I did there. Seems like the criticism from that motivated some real change, which is refreshing.

The two examples part is what’s important. If they stutter and the best they can come up with is the Diversity and Inclusion VP and then the head of janitorial services, that’s insight into what kind of support, or not, you’ll see in the future there.
