success is not found in a number. it's a lifestyle that is the perfect balance between providing opportunities for and actually living with your family. sure a higher salary is a factor but not at the sacrifice of being miserable and a dick to your family/loved ones

Successful is a different term for different people. To me successful is being able to afford a nice house, in a nice area, without having to penny pinch, worry about date night, kids activities, daycare, nice vacations, etc. To do that here in NY, I need about 400k combined with wife. 300k would put us in a nice spot, but 400k would put me in that successful category

$250 Base Solo. I’d like to get to the point where money isn’t a limitation for most things.

<100k for both my wife and I with 2 kids in NYC

I am still trying to figure out where/how this is possible. When I SINGLE making <100k in the city, I was living the STRUGGLE! I can’t imagine having to support three more people on that salary! But respect to you for getting it done!

300k!!!!? I have four kids and we feel like 120k is good

like

Well that’s promising! Haven’t mapped it out... always just hear how expensive

Just a little bit more

100k for me

Wife and I combine make about $230k and are barely surviving. We live on Long Island, have a house in a good neighborhood and a young child. Another $60k in salary will give me the breathing room to start saving. It’s all on me, my wife is already at top pay!!!

Haha. No amount is good enough.

400k is my goal at minimum when I’m 45

like

I make 70k my wife stays home with the kids and we have a great house. I live in Houston. I think 10k more a year would be cool.

like

120k for me and my wife, then probably at least 175k when we have children

like

Dallas area, so probably mid-lower COL

It depends on the COL of your city. My wife and I make approximately 250k combined and we are actually starting to now think we can afford a house in a good school zone. We are likely 3-5 years away from getting the down payment to buy that house.

like

This is not enough for NY lol. Enough to be comfortable, not enough to consider yourself successful

Wife and I are both around 100k. We do well, but feel like we would both need to get to at least 300k total by the time kids are in the picture.

like

This is my goal too. We currently make $250k base.

When I started I was making 60 with 3 kids in a high COL city...

like

when you guys say 120k...is that base comp? or total comp? what about health insurance?

You sound like an undercover partner at comp time “don’t forget healthcare is pet of your total compensation package”.

$150k Base - Dallas

I feel like lower 100+ is middle management in most regions so I won’t call myself successful. Maybe just adequate. 200k could be it

300 wld be sweet. 250 shd be good. 200 is okay

I might be accepting a role that brings me to $165/170k base and $200/$205k TC with 5 YOE. Current base comp is $135k and TC $145k. I have a couple of questions with this move. This would be my 4th firm in 5 years. I don’t know if this matters, I’ve been jumping and interviewing around and no firm has batted an eye or cared. But unsure if this actually matters in the long run? I’d love to stay in the same place but the salary increases I’m getting with no MBA are lucrative.

Have seen comp for NACR (restructuring) listed at around 150-200 for analysts, 200-275 for associates, and one mention of senior associates at 375k. Supposedly NACR gets crushed in terms of hours. But i've also read that targets are around 2000 hours per year? Something doesn't add up.....e.g. Associate $550/hr * 25% cap rate * 2000 billable hrs = $275k.......but 2000 hours is slightly over 40 hours a week (including 4 weeks vacay), not the 80 hr/week. So is there a ton of time on vacation?
