PwC Is there a way to bypass the promotion policy of not being able to apply for jobs in 2 or more levels above your current level? Especially, if one joined the company at lowest level with over 8 years experience? Reason was, I took a career break for 6 years and to maximise my chance of getting back into the industry, I applied for a role I was almost guaranteed to get. I had hoped it would be easy to rise in ACN but was met with "you can't be promoted 2 levels above", cont'd in comments

I had a hard time initially getting my foot in any doors - stuck in the loop of "you need experience" and no one willing to give me any. So I took temp jobs and had them note in my file that I was hoping to work anywhere related to architecture. First they gave me a temp job at an elevator manufacturer, but no valuable connections there. Then I got a position at the local college, in the architecture department. That got me the connections to move on to a firm bc the architects vouched for me. So a weird path, but I like how it panned out.
I tell everyone, do what you can to form professional relationships (join AIA chaptes, get involved with Habitat, etc, make friends with product reps), bc sometimes getting a job depends on who you know!
I took the first job that would hire me cause I needed money. Every job has it's pros and cons, and getting any experience I think is more important than getting the perfect job. I learned so much about practice from this first job it's like being in school in itself.
