Make it more and more weird
“I’m not sure why, but how about we try to look it up together?”
“What do you think” or “why not” are pretty effective.
But my kid keeps asking “why not”
I hit them with the 'why not'
I had a friend who was a preschool teacher tell me one time that when kids ask why, what they are really asking is to learn more. Not necessarily a specific why to the immediately preceding response. Once I stopped saying because of x. (Why?) because of y. And started telling a bit more of a broader story about the thing we were talking about, I got fewer why questions.
(Assuming a little kid here and not a teen who is pushing back/challenging something they don’t like the answer to)
Answer honestly until thing get too complex for them to comprehend
I go down the rabbit hole to challenge myself

I always try and answer, or ask google

I love the curiosity albeit can be exhausting and embarrassing 😝 giving a vague answer directing the attention somewhat helps. Have fun! I many times wonder incorporating the whys myself…
My MBA marketing prof had a model called “Five Whys”. My kid has already surpassed him
Answer with “because I said so”
Or is that to Gen X a response and you want to helicopter parent?
