Don't believe anyone who tells you "This is what you need on your resume." There are so many ways to present a resume and every manager who looks at these resumes has their individual preference. I, for example, appreciate a one paragraph lead-in that tells me who you are, what you've done, and why I am reading your resume. A paragraph highlighting your skills -- those things you do all day every day. A sentence or two about outstanding performance awards (probably leave out the "employee of the month" awards). A quick rundown of your work history. A summary that speaks about your ambitions in your career. Some managers want to see evidence that you are more than just a work robot. They want info on your familly -- married, how many kids, civic clubs/organizations, etc. I don't care, but I don't take off points if your resume has that fluff and stuff. You can hire a "resume expert" who may have a better finger on the pulse of managers overall, but no matter how much you pay for that resume, it's a crapshoot as to whether the manager looking at it likes the format.
