The most reasonable answer I have ever gotten was that the position that you accepted was not consistent with what you were told, therefore it was not a good fit for you. I'm willing to accept that from someone once - but the expectation is that all of your other experience is for a good number of years. One quick exit could be the job- many quick exits, and I am going to think that you are the problem.
If the time at the job is too short I recommend leaving it off the resume. Just say you took some time off to study for a certificate, test, travel etc
Jobs that are directly correlated with accounting are finance. Send red flag to the employer
It happened to me once. The following happened at the company I joined and left => they changed my title after I joined (day 1) => they decided to go and outsource all the accounting department and move my position to work directly on project management (month 2) => tried for 3 months to do my best and realized I was a CPA and leaving for project management was not something I wanted to do. They sent me offers in 2/3 interviews I did with only 6 months on this job but 2 years in previous one.
I try to stay at least a year.
Zero. I’ve had a job that I deleted from my resume because it was only 4 months
4 years is a good time to learn a job and look for progression, I'm cautious of candidates that jump every 12 months or less regardless of ability
There is no minimum. At the end of the day if you are not a fit for the job due to incorrect information that the company provided to you at the interview stage then it is in both yours and the company's interest that you leave, clearly indicating why to your employer, and allow for someone better suited to assume the role. I had a job that I left after about 8 months due to the culture that the President of the company cultivated. This company even paid me $10K above what I asked and the job was pretty consistent with what I expected, however, I was being asked to do what I considered to be inconsistent with the expectations of a CPA so I informed my manager who understood the conflict and I then left. Strangely they asked me to recommend someone (laughable).
I have stayed at every job I have had for atleast a year. I think thats honestly just what I felt was right and not necessarily what everyone would say. It depends on the person honestly.
Say it’s a contract role.
