What's the pay for a freelancer/contract at tech companies
(Apple, Meta, Google)
I have been a commercial editor at a post house in NYC for the past 10 years, so it's the only pay structure world I know. Salary draw, commission, etc.
There is a possibility that I might be pivoting to an in house editor at one of the tech companies in California.
Anyone have any first hand knowledge on 1. what a freelancer might get (is it by day rate?) and 2. what a staff editor might get salary-wise?

I've been in Revenue Cycle for over 20 years, have a MBA and coding certifications with AAPC but struggling to find opportunities over $100k. Any suggestions?

Working Moms/Dads: Do in-house positions exist with flex time hours? I need to be able to leave work at 4pm to pick up my son from daycare, but i can get back online at home to resume any unfinished work at 8pm. Is this realistic to convey to any companies in an interview? Pandemic aside, is face time 9-7pm really important? Is there a definitive guide to cost of living? The obvious cost of living centers (SF, NYC, LA etc.) get covered a lot, but I’m wondering where my city falls. It’s a modest Midwest city with ~100k residents but is a relatively touristy spot. It often feels like a MCOL area but I’m not sure how to adequately judge that, and it would be helpful to know when comparing salaries and the like.

I currently make 78k at Lockheed but I’m not doing what I’d like to be doing and i felt stuck and after many conversations with my manager and no solution in sight, I started applying elsewhere. Fellow editors, I’m leaving somewhere where I’ve been in-house for 5 years, and was in-house 2 other place before that. I’m realizing that while I’m excellent at my craft, I’m not an excellent freelancer. Any advice for someone striking out on their own (and not in LA/NY)?

Are post-houses ramping back to in-person? I’m freelance and so far have had a couple in-person sessions but everything else has still been remote. I’m in NYC.
