Coinbase has the weirdest hiring practice I’ve encountered so far. I’m an M3 and was considering exiting consulting. Found a role I was a perfect fit for: YOE, background, skills, etc. I talked with the initial recruiter and all went really well and I thought this would be the right exit op for me. Went through all the interviews and get to offer stage and was told the hiring manager loves my background but thinks I’d be a better fit for a lower level consultant role. Thought she was kidding at first but she told me when hiring from consultancies they go a level down (never heard of this practice anywhere else before). I asked why I went through the manager interview process and why the required criteria for the manager role isn’t higher and she didn’t really have an answer. Now I couldve just bombed an interview and not realized it but I thought this was an odd way to do business. I politely declined and wished them luck. I also checked out the hiring managers background on LinkedIn after and turns out we had the exact same YOE mine had just all been within consulting while hers had been bouncing around Fintech roles for 9-18 month periods. Maybe they just really prefer folks from industry.
Can’t remember the actual title but something along of security governance program manager

Can i get hired at LinkedIn? I was an early adopter and I’m so active on the platform!
Kidding. In all seriousness though, they don’t give AF that you’re somewhat of a crypto OG. Why would they? Don’t you think there’s millions of people just like you applying? They didn’t even like my enterprise blockchain implementation experience enough to hire me, and not a lot of people have that.
They want the same things every desirable employers wants - to be impressed with the candidate. MBB or top consulting experience, coding or tech proficiency, degrees from top schools, general pedigree, people willing to work crazy hours, etc etc.

Admittedly they did something weird where i applied for something aligned with my experience and then they decided to consider me instead for some kind of HR role…not sure what happened there
Since when is coinbase a desirable place to work at?
I'm not sure anyone said that, but I'm interested in being involved in the space personally. Maybe not even Coinbase specifically, but it's a company that has had longevity and I have significant personal experience with. Reading some of these posts it seems like it might be run - in some cases - by morons though (which would explain why it can't develop proper customer service channels).
I just got an invitation to interview with hr and the scheduling link was broken 😂. That's definitely a first for me haha
Oh. Very cool! Best of luck! I’m sure the recruiter can help sort it out
My guess is you pretty much need a referral
I got an interview with them recently by applying online. Went all the way through to the final round and then ended up taking myself out of consideration for the role. I got a lot of red flags from them and don’t agree with their talent management approach.
That is terrible!
