Plenty of people that are not the leadership of the firm go on international vacations over the holiday, doesn't seem that far out of touch to me.
Maybe they want to show you that if you stick it out you’ll have the ability to take big fancy vacations like they do (you could do so now if you made it a priority)
Yeah Steve Howe is going to enjoy his family vacation in Chile
My partner at least makes it a point to tell us what wayward tropical island or whatever he visited on his holiday or summer
I guess it comes down to what you find motivating, etc. Historically, partners were always reluctant to give any indication that life as a a partner is pretty good. Then people say, “ugh, why would I want to keep working here, even the partners don’t seem to like it.” So, you talk about the good parts of it, and people complain. Wouldn’t you rather have a partner talk about the fact they are taking a sweet vacation and will be offline, than one who takes completely pedestrian ones and is on skype and responding to emails the entire time they are on vacation? Which one is setting a better example?
My last firm leaders didn’t... I’m just glad Hank and his red lapels are going to enjoy his family’s annual skiing retreat in Vermont. Stay low in those turns, Hank... stay low.
@ EY 2 I’d just prefer a Christmas bonus or a RAC that’s been previously promised and not have Steve Howe telling me about his trip to Chile while I’m busting ass home from the in-laws to keep wading through my client’s 💩
I used to think the same when I was a staff
Ours ends half her emails with, “on the way to the farm”
I agree with OP. When I worked their they were so pompous. KPMG it’s plain and simple. Thank you for all the hard work, go spend time with your family and friends, happy holidays and enjoy the new year
Yeah, they keep it simple. Nothing wrong with that. Less chance of offending anyone.
what do you consider to be exotic?
For purposes of these emails, anything international I guess
Gosh at my firm it’s somewhat frowned upon to take off any time next week other than the holiday 😔
I agree with AS1. You must be young.

EY2 I completely disagree with you. First of all, less than 5% of people who start in public accounting actually make it to partner. So hearing about the “good life” is not motivating. Second of all, rather than focusing on themselves, they should be focusing on all the hard people that make it possible for them to take such an exotic vacation. They’re much better ways to set an example about not working on PTO. Lastly, this is all kind of moot because a lot of people unfortunately are stuck working because of the new tax plan this holiday season.
