What’s you all’s take on the PMP certification? Is it still valued within your company?

At my company it’s viewed as a nice to have but no special weight is placed on it. Though I’m playing in startup land so things can get pretty weird. Not sure how the big boys view it.

It’s good, someone said it was an MBA level cert, which is bs. It’s valued, but not as omg amazing as it used to be. More shops are going agile. Depending on what industry you work for now and I’m the future, an agile cert like ACP SAFe might be better.

Software / Tech- Agile
Boring industry like retail- PMP

Not in our company. It is just a cherry on top but nothing so special about it. But its value may vary depending on the company.

Nope

Nope. Our teams use agile methodology so we value Scrum Master and Release Train Engineer certifications. PMP is a dying breed unless you work for a government contractor where waterfall development is still the norm.

So I’m an undergrad starting as an associate in consulting at PwC without a business background, I have really strong clinical knowledge and have been hired for healthcare consulting but I honestly don’t know the basics of accounting/finance/data analytics. I feel way over my head, any tips on how to give myself working knowledge or books I could read would be GREATLY appreciated!

Anyone here who started their consulting careers later in life? Always seeing posts about how young people make it to P... wondering about the other stories. I started as a C at 29 (yes, unfortunately, I fall into the bucket of exp hire hired at a lower level...), made M at 33. Doing well but also feeling like I’m already too old to aim to be a P. Hoping for some perspectives.

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.
