I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

99% of people are not going to be partner. And that’s ok. You can still be rich without equity and you will be less stressed because it’s not your business
@Manager 1 - wouldn’t sales be more partner track than becoming a subject matter expert?
You didn’t
It varied throughout my career. Up through midmanager it was my goal. Hit a phase as manager I wasn’t sure. Director was the continued roller coaster but worse. I’d say there were weeks -2 days I was about to quit, -2 I was neutral, 1 I was like go for partner ( this general went in this order starting on Monday). There’s so many variables in it. There’s no threshold anything is for sure either way
When I was asked to do more sales vs. become an expert at something. I switched to industry!
I knew day one I didn’t want to be partner
Partner 1, did you have a business case and a sponsor helping you?
Director 1 not in the manager/early director years. I was in the process when I did a direct admit at another firm. It was a guarantee and skipped the hazing process 🤷♀️
That sounds good to me.
