Want leverage? Get a new job, and resign with your 2 weeks notice, and walk away and never look back.
If they chase after you, and offer to beat the offer etc, you have a decision to make.
Unfortunately, they probably don’t care. And you trying to engineer a way to hustle a raise shows that you are in the weaker position. And any attempt to “convince” them will only make you look like you’re not a team player.
Be bold and let go of your attachment. Go get a new job and look to the future!
Disagree with KPMG1. You could simply present it as “Hey I’ve had a great time working here but there’s this other opportunity that looks good for me. Before I walk I wanted to give you the opportunity to see if I’m worth more than currently being paid.”
It comes across as courteous and professional and entirely normal...but only do it if you’re willing to walk
^K1 I think OP is looking between two new job offers
Quick clarification! I’m not leaving a current position. Just recruiting from graduate school into full time roles and juggling multiple offers with different deadlines
No. They can ask, and you can provide whatever information you want.
If you say who offer is from, in theory they could contact that company to validate it but the company should not share any details. This is to prevent people from making up offers and yet preserve information asymmetry
I agree with KPMG 1 - if you’re thinking of going, go.
