What client isn’t money conscious these days?
I’ve never met a client who’s not budget conscious, certainly not in the last decade. Also some of the ones with the nicest budgets are the cheapest.
It’s my cue that it’s a normal daily status meeting.
Actually, I used to design labels for a vitamin factory, and they told me to do exactly that because I was getting called every day for nonsense like “you wrote the wrong date on the report” “you came late 5 mins” “you’re working too fast, you might make mistakes, and that worries me” and I told my boss that I was worried to get fired, because I get on PiPs literally every day for the past 2 weeks non stop… until they threw me out of the job, goddam
It started after I told my assistant where she could get the info so she could copy and paste it on the labels, instead of writing it down every single time. That made her/our life way easier, but it seems It was against her protocol (she was doing exactly what I was doing and I did the copy paste thing for over a year) and the “super smart” assistant ran to tell my boss the “new trick” I showed her, apparently was a secret and they wanted her to write everything no matter what.
Step back and really think about your question. Are you saying that any time budget comes up you're going to leave an account?
Budgets are constricted constantly. Even in the best markets for the most successful clients and categories, clients will be cost conscious. That's the responsible thing to do. As a part of their job, they need to get the most out of their agency for the least money.
I might consider leaving if budgets get cut to unsustainable levels and our account team isn't willing to negotiate for more (or just say no, that's not enough). But to get skittish at the first mention of cost cutting is an extreme response.
Certainly your clue to start prepping for your client to lay you off.
This is a perpetual thing lol. It just means “don’t spend and bill 200 hours on this banner”
We can only do that if we don’t cost a fortune on the jobs we have. It’s all cause and effect lol
Every client right now in this market would be stupid not to be cost conscious. Most marketers are freezing budgets waiting for the market to adjust to tariffs so they don’t need to reduce positions on their end. This will continue all year.

It should be no secret that people in art are increasingly at risk. What the client needs or wants isn’t as grandiose or programmatic as it once was. Clients are cost conscious, as all others had said above, but agency would also be wise to start making art team members available to work across verticals so that (as you said) anxiety could be lessened and you’d feel like you’re consistently contributing.
No, that’s just a candid account person.
Then it’s a reason to be cautious, but not necessarily to run for the hills
No, it’s an ask to find creative ways to make their dollars stretch farther.
If your cd is off the business, they still need someone to service it. Sounds to me like you’re not going to get a ton of additional support. But if you’re the one making things go, you’ll be ok as long as the client stays.
Yeah. But notice it’s all worker bees. Less senior.
