My colleagues are my friends
And why shouldn’t they be? We spend more time together than I do with anyone else in my life. Would be exhausting if we weren’t close and able to share things. Of course it’ll never be the same as your non-work friends, but I still consider them friends
Funny how many people complain that this lifestyle doesn’t let them make friends, but also complain that this lifestyle forces them to spend some together with colleagues.
Isn’t that one of the ways you make friends?!
Yeah...it's pretty standard.
@M1 - yes, I do let them know. Just not understanding why some people cannot seem to do anything alone
One benefit of it having rental cars is that I can just Uber back when I want. One drawback is that I’m limited to food in immediate walking distance to the hotel. But sometimes you just don’t want to eat dinner with the team and you want to go back to go rock climbing or have a wank and that’s perfectly fine
It’s pretty standard and sad. It creates morale issues, too. I prefer when there is no such commitment to the team dinner and silly entertainment. Lose the team so you don’t lose yourself.
It really is too much. My first project was like this. We walked to the office together. Walked back to the hotel together. Ate together. Worked in a boardroom together. We are colleagues, not prison mates. #ineedalonetime
Hmm maybe tell them you have a significant other and you FaceTime often!
Someone on this bowl once was like I tell my family I have a work dinner and my co workers that I can’t make dinner because I want to catch up with my family and then I have a great night. Lol
I purposely find a different hotel when I can too
I feel like after my coworkers go on drunken rants and let out their drunken emotions we get along better though
@manager1. I ALWAYS do 😂😂 after the first week once I get comfortable with the location, I book different hotels, go to lunch unannounced, selectively attend happy hours, etc 😂😂
One of the main reasons I left big 4 consulting. I'm an adult, not a kid. Never again.
I shared a car on my first project and almost quit. It’s just too much- I need alone time to recharge. Work + dinner is great, but I want the option to have 10 min in the car to the hotel by myself, and I workout alone too.
Why should the client pay for separate hotel rooms but I ain’t complaining
I have the opposite problem. My director is cool and all, but after work, he doesn’t even want to have dinner or drinks.
I don’t think it’s too bad unless you’re doing dinner together every night. After work is me time and I value it. This could work to your advantage if the end of your work day is the person who has to get back the soonest dictates when you leave the office. Conversely it works against you if it just keeps everyone in the office as long as possible
Preach
I know but just like relationship you need a second to woooosaaahhh.
SC2 - I’ve actually done what you suggested, and you’re right. People who complained about me not attending team happy hours/dinner immediately decline when I suggest they join me for a workout
Yea once a week is fine. I am sorry I like to uber everywhere, the client can pay the additional $10 in the morning for my uber.
Couldn’t believe you’re from KPMG because my team is exactly what you just described
You forgot “work out at the hotel gym together”. Also, I thought someone on my team posted this — IT IS US.
