In terms of actual neighborhoods: nob hill, Russian hill, pac heights, lower pac heights, are generally palatable to most. Mission/Castro if you want more sf flavor. North beach is alright too. I personally think Cole Valley/Haight/NoPa is underrated and Hayes Valley is overrated but that’s just me. Stay away from soma, mid market, and civic center. And mission bay unless you want a new building and nothing to do on the weekends
lol sf rent sucks good luck
Okay actual answer: get roommates, use craigslist (I’ve def seen some for 2-2.5k in decent areas)
How is the "post mba-mbb" related to the question?
Inner Richmond, find a few roommates and pay ~$1200. Everywhere I saw looked safe, and lots to do with golden gate park
Tenderloin is crazy dangerous. If you are crazy enough to decide to rent there, I recommend you spend a full 24 hours walking the streets. No sleep. Just hanging out. On a Friday night. If you survive, you’ll be good to go to sign that lease. IF you survive 😜
@PwC 2: To give a rough estimate of income and consequently budget.
Near japan town isn’t that bad. My buddy used to have a 2 bedroom apt that he split with someone else and paid a little over 2k
Hard to find a 1bhk. I had posted about my sister looking to co lease wuth someone recently. Got flagged. But I can ask her if you ate interested. She is looking for 2 roomies I think and stays close tot the airport
East bay
Why? Move somewhere else. Or buy a camper. Or a boat
You could try somewhere suburban with families etc. I rent a 1100 SQ ft 2bd in the inner Richmond for $3200. Negotiate down from $3500
Same. I’m in an old apartment building in a 500+ Sq ft studio for $2800 in North Beach
lol I’m paying 1500 for a newly renovated 2 BR/1 BA in Noe Valley ✌🏼
1500 being my share (3000 total)
Oakland
Thanks everyone (special shout-out to Analyst 1). Will explore those neighborhoods. Don’t love the idea of having roommates again, but seems like that’s the way to go.
Good luck OP! A few more thoughts: marina is for overgrown frat stars if that’s your thing, Richmond is indeed more affordable but also far but it has good Asian food, same with sunset. And if you’re going to live in the mission try to keep a decent distance (few blocks) from the bart stations - those get sketchy at night. Noe Valley and Bernal Heights are nice too, but also farther, quieter (less bars), and more suburban (and more families)
