Which would you choose: MBB consulting or FAANG product management? Why?

I accepted an offer I’m not 100% sure about but want to work internally instead of on client work. Is consulting a safe backup if I want to return? I’m a bit older (mid 40s) and with ageism in tech, I worry if I don’t like this role, I won’t have options there. How do I stay attractive to consulting firms? I work in product design and spent last 5 years in consulting.

I’m sure others have considered this, I really feel burned out on my specific subspecialty. For the most part I do interventional pain management. I am midway through my career, but I cannot in anyway see doing this for the future, it just doesn’t feel like I’m making a difference. I’m honored to be a physician and to help a handful of people, but any suggestions on changing specialties mid life? I have perhaps 15 to 20 years yet to practice.. FDD 🐠 I will be promoted to audit SM in October, however looking to transfer to the FDD practice. Based on discussions with partners in the practice, I would be brought in as an experienced manager with opportunity to promote to senior manager in FDD next year. I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.
