Idk, I overpay though as much as I can because that interest is no joke

Maxing your 401k and HSA lowers your AGI, or take home pay. The save plan is based on your AGI, so you want to lower your take home. Lower payments will start the year after you start maxing all those deductions.

You can recertify any time after you file your new tax return. Also, file separately if married. This is now allowed to remove spouse’s income. That works only if you don’t both have loans.

My payment is near that. It's $216/month. I didn't really do anything. That was the payment that they told me to pay when student loan payments restarted.

Try consolidation?

SAVE plan. Brought my payment down to $88/month

I applied for SAVE received a letter for lower payments then received another letter for higher payments.

Secret is to get your AGI as low as humanly possible. Start a business with passive income and expense absolutely everything so you can offset your W2 employment income. If married, file separately for 2023 tax year.

Just kept paying as much as I could towards it while interest rates on the student loans were 0%. Figured attack as much as I could when everything was going straight to principal. Now that payments are mandatory again my outstanding loan balance went down enough over those 2 years to have low payments.

Mine is as low as possible and it’s $260

A payment under $200 a month? In my wildest dreams! My friends, if my financial obligations were under $200, I'd be dancing jigs in the streets and singing opera from the rooftops. Alas my reality is far less melodious.

I’m sorry for your situation, and hope it gets better for you soon.
But that’s the best comment I’ve read today, and put a smile on my face! Thanks for that ☺️😂
I don’t even have student loans and your energy spoke to my soul. 😂😂😂😂

Will I ever get over my poverty mindset?

I grew up very poor. I get extreme anxiety and shame when I spend money above $20. Deep down I feel like I should scrounge and save every penny. I use bath towels that are 10 years old and threadbare cause I can't bring myself to buy a "luxury item" despite making oodles of money and have a ton saved and invested.

However I note that there was withholding of some amount in 2017-2018 and 2019 tax years ( withholding from comission received from insurance commission from lic and United india)

I have not filed 2017, 2018, 2019 return as my total income was less than threshold

Is it possible to file return for 2017 , 2018, 2019( all r in refund) now without paying any penalty?
