I do a lot of informal mentoring and I’ve seen some shady stuff recently that my mentees have reported, specially in Texas. At least a couple of the recruiters that have been “working” the Texas market are taking some serious license with what they’re telling potential candidates - saying they have an exclusive opening at certain firms that they don’t - I know the hiring teams in those offices and checked. And the ultimate faux pas, blasting out resumes without the candidates’ permission.
I started writing something up until you were only looking for good experiences.
Sorry, on that note, no.
I think the issue doesn’t even require that much thought.
Most recruiters are pretty ineffective and shady, even if they are operating out of the market you are looking in. How on earth could someone operating from London offer any sort of advantage to using someone local?
In my one experience applying to a role with a British recruiter who happened to reach out to me and claim he had a unique role, he then ghosted me and when I continued to ping him he essentially admitted the role he mentioned didn’t exist.
By default, I wouldn't expect a recruiter siting in the UK to know much about the TX legal market, let alone the nuances between the HOU and DAL markets. I'm sure there are a handful of great ones that can prove me wrong, but idk why it's so surprising that UK-based recruiters would generally catch a bad wrap within the TX legal market.
