Why is Bain Capital getting roasted by everyone I talk to in PE? Theyre associates at KKR, BX, H&F, and Advent so not like they’re saying it due to insecureness. I am stuck in IR purgatory. I hate IR. I started off my career ten years ago as a deal guy. Then my firm asked me to shoulder IR responsibilities as well. Now I am finding each job I change to promise “you will do both IR and deals” but it’s always a lie. The firms just want a fundraiser. Deal people are more plentiful. How do I get out of this trap?

A new analyst has joined our team and we often give them models/ slides but don’t always ask them if they know all of the accounting principles to be able to make minute adjustments to EBITDA or free cash flow. We are a FIG platform, so the knowledge required is relatively unique as well and not as easy to google as corporate transactions. Is there a better way to coach the analyst short of just throwing them in the deep end to figure it out or should we wait for them to ask us for help?
