I have applied to several positions up Google. I have not heard anything back at all. No matter if I customize my résumé to the job description I still don’t hear anything back. I am wondering as to why Google ghost people instead of just telling them that they didn’t get the job? Do people on Google believe it is appropriate for the recruiters just a ghost people especially if they feel they don’t match the job?

I work with a globally dispersed team and we set up core hours that apply to all. Outside of structured daily standups and team meetings, I have established rules on what hours are acceptable for meetings to ensure global participation. We are also actively using Microsoft teams and the group chat is awesome. Some of the global teams do work a modified shift which makes collaboration easier. So far all of this has worked really well and everyone seems to be happy. I also suggest you create a draft of “ways of working” and have the teams provide their inputs and edits. Democracy does work sometimes 🙂

I have a question /suggestion - are you accommodating everyone, or are you ensuring that people accommodate to this situation. Often, EMs are under stress to 'please' every stakeholder (in this case different time zones), and in the process compromise their sanity and ability to comfortably operate. I don't necessarily believe in "customer is God" mentality. i.e. Bending over backwards to accommodate every single person.

Yeah, the fluid situation and a restrictive timeline can challenge the operating model too. One suggestion would be to continuously keep emphasizing in every call the approaching deadlines and the overall deadlines of the project. It may seem an overkill but it works to keep everyone else on their toes. Also, keep every partner involved in the project up to date with the delays and roadblocks. Often, partners disappear from the landscape and EMs hesitate reaching out for help because they don’t want to come across as “can’t manage independently”. Don’t hesitate in providing an update and seeking executive influence to keep things on track.

I work constantly with London. Ensure you are available during certain hours. Outside of that, let your teammates know you are unavailable.
Setting your “working hours” on your Outlook calendar help and dissuades meeting invites at odd hours.
