I think you should pursue the path you want to take versus what you think may or may not look better to MBA AdCom. Your journey should reflect the career path you want to take.

You want to demonstrate progression, so the promotion may make the most sense. With that said, a lateral move can sometimes mean more pay. One of the ways AdComs evaluate progression is through your salary. Do not take a role if it means a hit to your salary. I’ve spoken to multiple AdComs about this as I was in a similar position.
Interesting i never knew that- I was always under the impression that they looked mostly for career progressions/promotions/leadership rather than also looking at salary (and yes this would be a salary bump of around 16%)
