Just me or did January hiring start off well and February fizzled?

What I wish people knew about ADCOLOR is how often it was used by holding companies and agencies in presentations to clients, and in annual and quarterly reports, as proof of making progress in diversity. The clients and shareholders really thought that ADCOLOR awards were proof of exceptional progress, and didn’t press the hiring issues further. If this week’s ADCOLOR discussion was had out in the open 10 years ago, maybe the diversity hiring issues could have been tackled earlier and harder.

What is a good salary range in Dallas for Art director with 3-4 years of experience ? Also what is a good number for Junior position ?

Did y’all know that Greenhouse keeps track of super old applications? So if years ago you applied to a company that uses Greenhouse and you got rejected back then, and you reapply for a different role now, the current hiring manager sees that history including the old team’s rejection feedback. Awkward 😬

Curious if anyone knows how Spotify handles recruitment and hiring? Is it like agencies where you basically have to connect with recruiters? Or does their careers page actually churn out any responses?

Considering leaving agency world and transitioning to a strategic marketing role with a brand. Any creatives out there who’ve made the jump and could recommend some reading material?

CDs, has anyone considered a “Head of Brand” type of role in-house? How do you feel about that sort of transition? Is it always a step up, or more of a non-linear side step?

Has anyone had any success negotiating a title change without a raise? I know that budgets are extremely tight at my agency right now, so this seems like a fair compromise to show movement on my resume. I understand the implications of potentially missing out on getting a fair raise with my next role, but am making a comfortable amount and don’t want to switch to a new agency at the moment.

When do you think more agencies will start hiring again? Is everyone in new business and RFP season?

So I heard a big name agency was hiring and reached out to literally every CD and recruiter I could find on LinkedIn. Today, an HR coordinator/recruiter there just got back to me to set up a phone call. Is this a for sure “we like your book and are considering you” or are some recruiters just nice enough to hear you out without any expressed interest?
The optimistic part of me says “nice job, they might want you”. The pessimistic part says “she’s just being nice”.

If there’s 2-3 current openings for similar roles at different offices in the same agency network (and potentially the same recruiting team looking at it), is it a bad look to apply for more than one role?

🚨 job alert! 🚨 Looking for a bilingual copywriter (English / Spanish) who can also have a foot in art direction. It’s for an agency in Miami. Position is called “content creator” which entails a digitally led creative who comes up with experiences and social media ideas. Cool agency, cool clients. The main client for this position is pharma but you’ll have access to a bunch of other projects too. Starting remote but need to be in Miami at some point when life is normal again. Hmu!

Which agencies are hiring rn?

Is it uncommon to negotiate titles? Been interviewing for this job and really want it, but it’s an "associate" level position which also seems weird considering they’re asking for 3 years experience. I’ve currently been an associate for 2 years now and think it’s time to move on from the title. Salary is right, just the title is holding me back. Thoughts?

Any recommendation of how to get out of a niche medium? I don't want to say much as it may give it away to anyone I may work with.

We act more as a small support role to clients and AORs, not much is done in terms of concepting larger ideas and the work is much more design focused. There are times where we have the opportunity to concept but because of the medium it is rather limited.

Meant to try and get out last year but of course COVID exists, and I stayed for the security

Realized my former manager asked everyone on my team but me to review her. Pretty sure she knew I’d be honest about when she done f*cked up with me. I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too... during my exit interview!

How do u feel about very short interviews? I had a 12 minute one - they were glued to their watches & didn’t even prep. Agree u should track time & sure maybe I wasn’t a great fit. But they were very complimentary, asking questions & said they’d scheduled 15 minute calls back to back. It’s also silly to ask with 11 seconds left if I’ve questions. If I don’t, I don’t seem engaged, if I do, there’s no time. It seems like a robust staff role might merit 20 minutes. Am I nuts?

I had first and second round interviews for a specific role at a company—and even discussed salary range with the recruiter during first round—then I get an email from the recruiter saying the SVP and ACD I interviewed with loved me and thought I’d be a great fit, and that she’d be in touch when a position opens up that matches my skills and level. Has anyone ever had something like this happen? I’m so confused, because the role was for my skills and level.

I don’t quite enjoy the agency life anymore and producing. Any advice on how to make the jump to a brand. I started in Hollywood Development and then all things CG/VFX things that have been tremendous knowledge now in days that everything is going digital. I want to be a part of something where we create something for the future. I’ve been learning all things AR during COVID. All advice greatly appreciated on how to make the jump to another role like business development / development.

Is it fair that at the same agency one person can go straight to strategy director but others have to be ASDs? I had usually heard you either had that ASD role or not but not doing it case by case.

Just curious how others do it.

Not arguing the point of being ready, just trying to figure out if that’s a trap or if it’s common.

Have been in my current role a year - as a PM, what growth opportunities, trainings, etc should I be asking for in my review? For additional background, I am coming on 3 years at my agency (VMLY&R; first 2 years were in account) and will be graduating with my MBA in April.

What are some noteworthy Digitas Health clients that one should be familiar with if you were considering a role there?

After many months unemployed, I got an offer in another city at a pharma agency, HCP work. My last position was as a brand strategist at a well-known NYC agency. With the surge in job postings, should I hold out for a position that I'd actually be excited about? Or is the job market still super terrible? I wouldn't even mind DTC healthcare, but HCP is just not for me.

What online learning institutions are most respected by hiring managers and recruiters? Does it matter whether I choose Skillshare over Lynda over General Assembly, etc. or are they all basically seen as the same? I have a job, just want to build my skills and futureproof my resume by knowing more about things like UX and visual storytelling. Doesn’t have to be free. 

Be really nice to everyone you work with, especially the more junior ones. Someday they might go client side and you will be desperate for a referral from them. The industry is smaller than it seems and power dynamics can shift quickly.

I was just let go from a contract position 2 months early due to client reorgs (Covid). Was filed as a W2 but on a 6 month contract. Would I still qualify for unemployment? Pre Covid I wouldn’t but with the continued Pandemic Assistance plan, I think I might. Does anyone here have experience with this?

Thoughts on Work & Co for a design role?

I’m interviewing with an agency in a network, and they’re taking forever, so I reached out to another agency in the same network that’s also hiring, and they got back to me. Do I need to mention that I’m also being considered for the role at the other agency? The hiring managers know each other, so I don’t want to go behind anyone’s back but I also don’t want to miss any opportunities.

Reached out to the talent manager and a creative director via LinkedIn, about an open role I applied for at an agency I’m super interested in. Did this about 3 days ago. Do you think I overstepped? I know that wasn’t super long ago—how long should I wait before following up? Should I follow up by email? Would that even be appropriate? This all may be unnecessary to ask, but I’m an anxious person and this has all been plaguing me the past couple days. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

One of our tech clients has an in house opening for exact same role as mine. Should i apply for it? Will they inform my management and get me fired? I like the client but scared of agency finding out

Has anyone ever been in the position where you’re offered a job and it’s great, but it just doesn’t feel like the right time to jump? If they really like you and they’re actively hiring, is it possible to ask to be reconsidered in a year?

People who were hired last summer/fall: Are y’all still struggling with your role, or am I just that stupid 😳
