Wetheaction.org just announced a racial justice task force for those wanting to help out. I've been doing pro bono projects with them for a few years and I encourage you all to register.
My team has made tremendous efforts during the pandemic to ensure the safety of all facilities and people in our region as we resume in-office activity. Predicated on confidentiality, my colleague went to HR with negative feedback re a specific leader’s flexibility with the *mandatory* PPE protocol. The HR Manager went directly to the leader and gave the feedback along w my colleagues name. Since that day she’s been heavily “taxed.” HR has a responsibility to protect anonymity. How to handle?
Partner, senior associate (of 15 years), and their families just video-chatted with me from a beautiful villa in Europe. Meanwhile, I'm at my desk staring at the computer screen. 🤦🏼♂️ Thanks?
For those of you who like me experience a complete lack of mentorship from partners in your PG who are also just overall toxic and demeaning no matter what you do, what do u do? Go to HR? PGL? Mentor?
Has anyone had a request to terminate an employee after they returned from a leave of absence? What was your experience like?
Looking for learning recommendations (CLEs, books, videos, websites etc.) that would help a first year/young associate. Looking for either content that will help give you tips that are helpful as a whole or more specifically substantive info for a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney. Most stuff I find is for experiences trial attorneys and I’d love to learn more substantively the ins and outs on the work up of the case. Thanks!!
I’m studying for the Texas bar using Barbri. I am from a good school in the state (T50) and performed well there, but I am terrified that I am going to fail the bar. Any tips, tricks, advice on how you made it through? Is Barbri enough?
Received reply in other thread in response to concerns about the effect my work was having on mental health (have GAD/clinical depression). Thoughts? Discouraged about my longevity in this field...
Is anyone looking for a trial tech?? I have a great company I’d love to recommend! They do trial technology, help with voir dire, help with case strategy, and do all video editing!
Looking for some advice here. I am starting a tax llm program at a top ranked program but don’t have a background in tax or business. What are my chances of being hired at a good place? I am not T14 not even close but did pretty well in law school. I’m so nervous right now. TIA.
At law firms that restrict their lawyers’ personal securities trading, how are those policies enforced?
I'm in securities law and I'm joining a investment firms regulatory solutions group. Is that too compliance or do you think I'm still going to have enough prestige.
It just happens that this week I spent a fair amount of time negotiating with clients/potential clients on legal fees - and it is exhausting. I am less than 2 years in private practice...
I don’t understand why partners and clients get so angry and pissy if you ask them a question (and I’m not talking like lots of piecemeal questions). I know you’re busy and you’re paying me to solve your problems but I also need information from you to do my job...
Are there any downsides to engaging with recruiters just to see what else is out there? Very happy at my firm, but the potential of an additional $60K/yr (minimum) is hard to ignore.
Would you all consider the people you work with friends? Or it strictly just professional. Have a hard time navigating this and how much I should reveal about myself to others
What do you recommend for an aspiring lawyer — attend a lower T14 or a T20? I’d graduate with 230K and 170K, respectively. I am a BigLaw para and am fine with returning to pay off debt.
Just learned EY's expense today..... Idk how else to think of it other than a nightmare when it comes to receipt.
When working for multiple clients at a time (remote and project based in this case) how do you like to structure your time? I'm currently splitting my day with a few hours chunked for each project.
Looking for a new job- aiming for about 200k salary or so- one of the options is a firm where I’d be an independent consultant- how much would you ask for per hour? I can do the straight calculation after considering insurance, match, self employment tax etc... but given the additional uncertainty I’m not sure what to ask for.
AD here from Thailand with 6 years of experience and won some local and international awards. Came here to Canada last year and i'm being offered a junior AD role because of the lack of my Canadian experience with $50k salary. Is this the norm here?
For those struggling with delivery windows on instacart/amazon or Costco: use this bot to check and alert when slots open.
Some of these posts are ridiculous. They’re like just exited consulting to FAANG/Niche Startup with $150k base and $400k TC with 6 months of experience, you can do it too! Then they ghost or explain that they are a former SWE 😬 coming from MBB. Going to some super Niche role that people with crazy backgrounds are recruited for. Congrats, but not everyone has that background
My elderly mother and her immunocompromised husband live in NYC in an apartment building. How do I convince her to stop going down to the communal laundry room to do laundry!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to move from a planning/buying agency to a creative agency in a Strategist role? Smooth transition or will I have to sell it?
The pain of niceties when coming back to the office after some time away is making me rethink my embrace of extended remote work stints. If staying in the office means I have to talk to you less...
Anyone here choosing not to send their kids back to school in the fall out of fear of COVID-19? Not sure if I feel comfortable yet, and I need to let the school know by August 1st if I want my kid to do full virtual classes through December.
Best questions to ask in small group networking sessions with MBA recruiters? Interested to hear from recruiters themselves or folks who have gone through the process...
Have a (narrow) interview pipeline for MBB operations (not implementation) and MM PE ops associate. How different is the work/prestige/pay?
Does anyone know comp expectations for Investment Associate at Bridgewater Associates ? Would be coming in with 2 yoe
I'm starting to think that maybe we should take a close look at this whole mask idea folks. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/14/health/coronavirus-hair-salon-masks.html
