This is for the Toronto lawyers … once you finish your articles, did you ever have recruiters reaching out to you on LinkedIn? Or do they only do that for more experienced lawyers? I’m wondering what my options look like once I’m called to the bar here in Ontario. Thanks 😊
My mentee (class of 2021) graduated from a good school with decent grades but somehow ended up in a nonexistent CA market doing insurance coverage. I think he just panicked and took the first job offered. I’m trying to help him make a transition out to a primary market (I’m thinking SF/SV) and actually make money. If anyone has an leads or would be willing to meet with him please reach out.
I just had a recruiter reach out to me about a firm hiring in their “director and officer liability” practice group which I’ve never heard of before. Anyone practicing in this area? I’d love any insight.
I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
Work BURNOUT… LET’S TALK ABOUT IT. So a little back story. I am 38 a full full time single mom. I work about 60 hours per week. I do not get child support. My employer currently expects me to bring in 15 new customers & 100 existing every month… minimum. I have realized with my upcoming paid time off that I am burnt out. I recently have had no motivation to produce because I so desperately need a break. I sell internet and am the 2nd top producing rep in the region. Opinions to get my mojo back.
Any tips for studying for the LSAT? Also, I know academic letters of recommendation are required for most schools but I feel I will have a hard time getting one since a good majority of my undergrad was online and it was practically impossible to connect with professors. Any advice on securing recommendations?
For those folks doing sales at edtech co’s, what have you found to be the typical comp structure? I have over 15 years in the Ed space, but currently evaluating several opportunities in the entrepreneurial space. Thanks!!
So what happens if you don’t meet your minimum billable expectation? Not for lack of trying, but.... asking for a friend 😅
Might be a dumb question, but is the law firm data on NALP accurate? Specifically salary and benefits info?
Advice- My team were all given a raise in March except me. I brought it up to my manager who recently started. First reaction was I am still new and a raise wasn’t warranted. I told him 2 other recruiters on my team started when I did. He said he would need to look into it. Today he told me 3 of my HM’s don’t feel supported (despite having the 2nd most hires) and I could either resign or go on a PIP. I’m the only minority on my team have double the req load and supporting the most dept.
I’m getting ready for my first telephonic Case Management Conference as a first year associate. I’ve never been “in front” of a judge before. I received some training and I look forward to the experience, but I’m a little nervous about having to speak in front of the judge. I know the case, but I’m afraid I’ll freeze and make a fool of myself. Any advice re: court calls, courtroom etiquette, or stories about your first times in front of judges?
I went to a T14 law school, got great grades and glowing recommendations, and wrote (what I thought was) a great writing sample. But I got rejected from all 70 federal clerkships I applied to. The only thing I can think of is: I took a non traditional route after law school and did a 2 year public interest fellowship in a niche field of administrative law. The rejection gave me a lot of self hatred. I still really want to clerk. Any advice? What is wrong with me?
Hey friends! I'd love to inquire about the Account Strategist role at Google. I would really like to understand ... On a high level, what is it that you do? Are you happy in this role? What are some promotional avenues? What is the hardest thing about your job? What is pay range when you're first starting out? (Not greedy just genuinely want to inquire) What are some skills that are really important to bring to the table for such a role? Cheers! Google
Received an offer from 1 firm and have 3 days to accept or decline, but still haven’t heard from the firm I had a callback with late last week. The 2nd firm is definitely where I felt like I’d be the best fit... is it acceptable to reach out to the lateral recruiting coordinator at that firm and let her know about the offer/time sensitivity?
How do people organize their desks to fit both work laptop and personal laptop? I have a second monitor that I normally use with my own laptop and finding it crowded to fit the firm laptop on same desk.

Has anyone taken the BCG Pymetrics assessment? Haven’t done one before and not quite sure what to expect and what they’re looking for.
Can I export a list with all emails I sent for the month? I would like to use it to compare to my billed time to make sure I don’t miss anything. Usually I go through my sent inbox but it has so much extra info so it’s not a quick scan. Plus outlook does weird things sometimes like combines conversations so I only see most recent sent item in that convo. Alternatively, do you have a good way confirming you caught all of your email time?

My partner is still out of work from being laid off due to COVID and made it to a final round interview that he thought went well , and got a denial email this morning. I was so excited to finally not feel so much financial pressure as his unemployment is stalled, but I just feel terrible, like this will never end and start to impact our relationship because he can’t pull his weight with the bills. Plus, I have a presentation today and just feel so distracted — an awful awful morning.
Good news GDS employees-
"Our strong collective performance at GDS in FY22 means higher investment into our overall variable performance bonus (VPB) program as well as more investment in our employee benefit programs. This also allows us to invest back into the business to help us be future-ready, and provide job and growth security."
I personally expect a better hike than last year. What are your thoughts?

Has anybody here made a midlife 180-degree career change? If so, how do you feel about it in hindsight? I’m thinking of completely changing fields— I would have to go back to school, possibly go into debt, lose two years of income advancement while studying, start over in rank, and completely uproot my life. Is that crazy? Does anybody actually pull this off with no regrets?!
How have you gotten over someone you loved
Guys can my signed offer letter be revised after accepting? I signed it today and emailed it to HR at 5pm after work hours so she’ll get it on Monday. I asked for closer to 80k but initial offer came in at 66k + 4%, I negotiated and she gave 67.5k + 4%, I renegotiated she got an approval for 68k + 4% … the lowest I wanted my base was 70k but I gave up but now after reading the offer properly I see that my internet cost is on my own? My previous company reimbursed us.Can I negotiate to 70k (cont)

Coming from a finance/banking background, I always knew this to be a questionable call, especially early on in one's career. In terms of PWM and financial advising, does anyone don the stripes?
