Got a potential offer from a start up, looking for someone to complete to their entire HR department from the scratch. Currently at a stable fortune500 company with a at will role for a project for 12-15 months. Not very happy with the mundane tasks in this role. I’d be leaving 6mo early than previously discussed. Start up role seems super exciting but culture is different and can be tough. Does anyone have any thoughts? Is it bad to leave?

Thoughts on SPHR vs SPHRi? I have PHR currently. Current company is growing internationally so I'm debating which route to go.

Just for fun - how did you get in to HR?

I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, but in college (as a psych major) I randomly got a work study job in the HR office and enjoyed it. Graduated in 2009 when finding a job was impossible and wanted to continue in HR but ended up in payroll for a few years. Finally got an HR admin role with payroll duties, and have since worked my way up and dropped the payroll duties along the way (thankfully 😂)

I am a military spouse/government employee with a clearance on LWOP until 2024. I would like to start gathering ideas for what to do in case I need to enroll in schools or get new certifications. I am torn between going back to my job, getting decent money but it's not something I love and the career progression will be limited. Or do I find something I am more passionate about with less money? Or find a contracting job with flexibility and better pay? Any insight is appreciated and welcome.

Throwing myself out there… is anyone on here looking to fill a SaaS BDR/SDR role? I don’t have direct experience in SaaS but I have worked in the tech space as a Business Analyst. I also have 5 years in sales/operations for a manufacturing startup. I am looking to break into SaaS Sales and start from the bottom. I am goal oriented and love a good challenge. I appreciate any leads or information anyone could pass my way. I am located in the North East (Southern Maine).

I’m taking the SPHR in less than 2 months and haven’t started studying for it. How difficult is it? I’ve been in HR for 20 years and have experienced ALOT in that time, although there are always employee relations scenarios that surprise me! How much do I really need to study for this? I just can’t seem to motivate myself to do it, I’m so mentally burnt out at the end of the day from a high stress HR job, the last thing I feel like doing is studying HR!

I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼

Does anyone have any recommendations to links to free content / books that would help people develop soft skills (e.g., public speaking, time management, negotiating, etc.)? Have you come across anything that you were wooed by?

Should I go for a BDR role with base salary of 65-75 plus commission or stick with my new account executive role at 57k base plus commission. Not sure what the commission structure is for the bdr role.

I'm so frustrated with startups, established companies, CEOs, and Founders touting that they are looking for “diverse” CHROs. It's a lie! I'm tired and hurt when I go back and see who they hired. Ninety-nine percent of the time they never look like me.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

Attempting to leave car sales due to the high stress and crazy schedule, however I’m not looking forward to a pay cut. Any tips on how to cope with the sales stress or should I forget about the money and try for something more laid back?

Im a contractor. Another firm has reached out for 100% remote work for basically a lateral move. I really like where I’m at right now. I’m remote but if I turn to FTE which is very possible later this year I would probably end up having to go in 1 or 2 days a week to NYC. My manager knows this is basically a dealbreaker for me. Should I let my manager know I have another firm reaching out but I really want to stay but I’d need to be a remote FTE? They mentioned several times I’m an asset.

Anyone ever have a panic attack in an interview? Like mid interview? The interviewer kept badgering you while you calmy tried to explain your answer, and their behavior triggered it.

I've had intense interviews before, but I have never had this happen to me. This is also my first panic attack.

Interviewing with McKinsey & Company next week. Can anyone who recently went through the process share how hard they found the math? Obviously it’s all relative but trying to get a sense of what level to expect compared to cases I’ve done with people from the firm and on their site.

Tone-deaf Super flashy firm owner with a $250k car, luxury watches, etc., constantly jokes about how expensive stuff is. Associates here get nickel and dimed on salary (less than $100k), no cost of living increases, no wfh, no bonus, mediocre benefits, and ridiculous hours expectations despite “no billables”. What a joke.
