650k. Anyone telling you to take 400k less and live in Dallas doesn’t know anything about NYC or they’re crazy. With 650k you can afford a very very nice home in Brooklyn or queens and an even nicer home in Staten Island. Or you can just move out to Westchester. That’s a quick ride on the train to grand central. Bottom line. You’ll live like kings in nyc with 650k.

I make $600k in ny and live in long island which has high property taxes but great public school. My wife stays at home and we have 3 kids. $600k goes a looong way.

The equivalent of $250k in Dallas, TX in NYC is $486,000. So, pick NYC if you are good with the cold weather.

Depends entirely on your lifestyle.
From a strict COL perspective the extra comp in NYC would more than make up for the extra cost here. It’s all a waayy nicer commute on metro north or LIRR than Dallas traffic.
But once you are at this level it really is more about where you want to live.
I would also add that the $650k job in mee York maybe very well else to a $850k or $1M job whereas the Dallas one seems less likely even to get you to $650k in the future.
The take 600k home pay is literally double the 250k. Literally a no brainer.
Haven’t seen anyone ask this, but are the 250 and 650 base or TC? That makes a difference right? If 300 of the 650 are tied up in stock wouldn’t that make Dallas a little more attractive?
TC also means that’s what you get every year so who cares if it’s in stock for that year? Also you would have the same problem in Dallas if that’s TC with some of it “tied up in stock”

Nope. I’m far from it. This is an offer my husband who is in investing is contemplating. That 600k isn’t all received same year. Most of it is deferred comp
Even with a family 600k is enough and I'm sure your SO bring in income too
At that level you have to thinking annual average income, because deferred cash is great but it shouldn't be used to budget.
Unless you're including 1x income which isn't TC, because it's not recurring.
In NYC you don't have to buy a condo where your mortgage payments will be doubled by maintenance fees. You can buy into suburban living in the outer boroughs or Northern NJ (a secret that is still very well kept), and enjoy everything the city and the general area has to offer.
Nice living in Dallas in no longer that much of a bargain.
