My $0.02: Look at her going to bed as “the start of her rest period”. It’s not about her going straight into REM sleep, so make it clear if her body isn’t quite tired yet, she can play in her room for a little bit, but since it’s bed time she isn’t allowed to come out.
This combined with a slightly later bedtime meant our son was able to rationalise even if he didn’t feel immediately ready to sleep, it was time to be alone and quiet - which 9/10 times results in sleep.
I have my 4yo close her eyes and I count back from 30 to 0 until my voice is a whisper.
I also will put a timer on for 15 min so my daughter can adjust and play in bed. I return and kill the lights. I return in 15 and whisper she needs rest
Her in feels a bit much. Anyone else deal with this before or has suggestions on what to do?
Give them a toy to cling on to and lock door for a couple of days. They will get used to.
