1. Southwest/Holiday Inn. 2. Home Depot Store Credit Card. 3. Tumi.
People in this thread are mostly on point. Fellow EY based out of Charlotte: 1) SPG and do the EUY SPG challenge, you will earn Platinum in no time. 2) American, do the challenge (ask around there is always a challenge) and go for gold at the very least. 3) B&R. Tumi is getting soft on their warranty.
Bonus: Do National for rental cars. Easy pick up and drop off. Link your SPG account with Uber for a nice trickle of points. Sign up for the Amex awards program, it's 99$ but you'll get that back after a couple of engagements (my first project netted about 85$ in rewards)
If you're in Charlotte, you'd probably be crazy not going American for direct flights. Either of the Chase Sapphire cards or a hotel branded. Travelpro, Briggs and Riley or Tumi
I'm in Charlotte. Definitely American. 100% Former bank employee and got to keep my 6% cash rewards card so I'm sticking with it. I don't spend money on suitcases, such a waste. Good handbag or briefcase is much more useful. No backpack. 😉
Thoughts on Travelpro check on luggage?
Travel pro isn't bad. So I break luggage into 3 categories: 1) crap from Walmart or some funky zebra print stuff 2) regular department store luggage 3) premium
Travel pro falls into #2 generally unless you get their top of line flight crew stuff or platinum (though recent discussion points to that falling below spec lately). It's not bad stuff! I'd argue it's at the top of the #2 game. Level #3 is gear for serious traveling. At this level you are looking for quality and warranty. Reason I vote for Briggs and Reilly is because of their warranty. Tumi has fallen a bit with their warranty.
A few other luggage notes: Victorinix is overpriced, buy it at Costco if you really want it and save yourself the sticker shock. Hartman is a #3 player, high quality stuff, they are a bit more upper crust and fashionable. EBags is an online storefront but also has a house brand which is solid. #2 level pricing with very high level quality! Lastly Rimowa is for the power user, doesn't fall under #3 using the criteria I have, it's super expensive and super quality stuff, kind of in its own category because it, I think, has a different target customer (like the Haliburton "iron side") bags etc.,
My recommendation and personal fav: Briggs and Reilly baseline domestic carry on. Fits in overhead. Looks sharp but not flashy. Bulletproof warranty. Get the upright garment bag style if you carry suits. Don't bother with the spinner , you get more room with the traditional two wheel design. Check out ebags and sometimes they have like 15%, which is a good deal since these bags almost never go on sale.
United I believe
American/ upgrade your Corp Amex to the plat / Travelpro
1) American & Marriott or Starwood; 2) Chase Sapphire Rewards if you have good credit; 3) Tumi or Briggs & Riley
1) American & Marriott or Starwood; 2) Chase Sapphire Rewards if you have good credit; 3) Tumi or Briggs & Riley
Can't speak to airlines for you, Marriott and SPG are merging so won't matter soon but one of those, Briggs and Riley bag
Listen to EY1, SM1 and ACN1 - but go B&R over Tumi
CLT is an American hub now. Delta competes and is by far a better Airline - but you'll have the ATL connection. SPG, then Marriott - better rewards props overseas. Tumi hands down. 750k actual miles flown between US Air and Delta since 2007 - definitely Delta!
Bonus: Do Avis and get 1,000 per rental if you have status. 👌🏼
*1,000 miles per rental w status on American, that is
EY booted Avis a while ago.
