A family member recently passed away and left behind 50k for me. What would you do with this money? Non-fiscally responsible answers are welcome, too, I don't have any debts to pay off or anything pressing to use the money on

Do something nice in memory of them (eg a trip or something that remembered you of him / her) and invest the rest. Would probably aim to invest 30-40k

Just had a similar legacy left to us and invested it into Real Estate, and started a family bank. So far so good, with the rate of return on both!

I agree with VP. I would put into index fund as for the investment.

I would invest half and do something I wouldn’t ordinarily do with the other half like go on a fun vacation.

Do you have a 6 month emergency fund? Top that off first. Use the remainder to fund the matched part of your 401(k) use the remainder of that to fund a Roth IRA.

With whatever is left over feel free to spend a bit some ring you want but wouldn’t normally be able to afford and invest the rest (or put a way to fund IRA or 401k for 2025)

Do you honestly believe the 10-40% defi interest rates were risk free. It’s all paid by stablecoin printing backed by the assumption that crypto prices would keep appreciating

Is it stress or burnout?

Need advice. Have some credit card debt that I’ve been working to pay off. Have made progress but want to lower it quickly. We have dual income, with a house (~$300k in equity), 1 kid and 1 on the way. I’ve looked into debt consolidation via HELOC but also have ~$80k in vested equity in my company that I haven’t touched. Get equity refreshes every year. Would it be smarter to cash out $15k-$20k of that to pay debt vs. a HELOC at ~5% given that will still require mthly payments

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage.

I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest.

Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?

Never dealt with this before, so wanted to ask if anyone has ever had an instance where the insurance didn't cover the outstanding balance of the loan and the insured then owed money? Car was $35k, $7k down, finance $28k. Gap insurance is through lender, not auto insurer.

We have done the math and I know we can afford much more but he doesn’t want to buy more than a 400K home. I’m almost positive we can afford 500K and be more than ok. But then he starts to talk about how much kids cost and how we will be house poor and we won’t be able to afford kids. 🤔 Am I insane??
