Junior associate here (2L). Got some ‘constructive feedback’ from a 4L. We went over budget on a matter, and 4L thinks it has something to do with my inefficient delegation to 0Ls (and not the all the out of scope work the client asked us to do but doesn’t want to pay for...). Delegated tasks included basic grunt work like splitting out documents, preparing execution versions and other low-level tasks. 4L asked me to check with them before I delegate anything in the future. Most material terms are arguably there, but it’s convoluted and you’d be embarrassed to put your name on it. There’s clearly a better way to draft it. To what extent do you re-write certain sections?

Last week I had to explain to my child what “politics” (as in office politics) is. My child is going to a new high school and wants to play volleyball. There was a 3 day open “tryout” for incoming freshman for 2 teams. After the first day, she noticed that
1) there were obvious favorites (coaches are not even hiding that fact);
2) some can’t even play and got on the team,
3) some that can obviously play but did not get on the team;
4) decision were obviously made before the first day was over.
