IBM is a good company, but IBM > MBB is very, very rare.
More like IBM > ACN with occasional B4 tossed in.
IBM is highly focused on technology. So you will learn a lot about all public Clouds, Red Hat, IOT, Digital, Analytics. The chances to be focused on the business strategies are fewer. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist, I do know some excellent business process consultants at IBM. But for the most part, you learn technology as your primary focus.
IBM1 what do you think of IBMs GBS cognitive data science branch compared to big 4 and can?
Worked at IBM for a bit - IBM 1 is right that work with be focused on technology. Specifically you'll be doing a lot of implementation work for cloud, SAP, etc. As a "business" consultant, you will be PMOing those projects.
The negative side is that if you are not interested in technology implementation, you will be very bored and will do repetitive work across projects.
The positive side is that work balance is way better than most consulting firms - you work the hours of your client's IT team (9-5) but typically get the consulting perks (in normal life - travel, air and hotel points, meals etc.). Salary is not as high as consulting firms, but as they're trying to compete with them, they can be pretty comparable (specifically looking at MBA level).

Why would you go from Blackrock to IBM?
I’m trying to create as many opportunities as I can since I’m graduating this December! I don’t find out about whether I receive a return offer from Blackrock until September. I also kind of wanted to get a feel of the consulting industry as well
Lol run away
Okay let’s clarify a few things 1) there is a digital strategy practice at ibm, that is directly comparable to work at the MBBs. So it’s very dependent on what practice exactly your offer is for. Not that the practice is relatively small and was really hard to get in to / v exclusive when I was there.
2) you can go to mbb after if you try hard enough because I did it. But why would you want to go from blackrock to Ibm? At that point recruit straight for mbb
Hmm really, when I worked in one I did the same type of work then that I do now. I think there may be a sub-group within the broader practice that is the good one though tbh.
That’s an entry level consultant position
