I would get a certification that you see referenced several times in job applications you’re applying to
No, getting a degree is not worth it. As a recent graduate, I can assure you that no one cares if you have a degree.
Generally with 20 years of exp I’d say no need unless you’re trying to become a Mechanical engineer or lawyer or something where there is a 1:1 correlation between the job and the degree.
In most IT jobs you’ll see “… or experience in lieu of education”
Find 5 job descriptions similarly sized companies for the job you are qualified for:
• Paste the roles, responsibilities and required qualifications side by side in a spread sheet.
• What CERTIFICATIONS do consistently see as " Required Skills" or "preferred"?<-- get those certs.
• Write your experience next to each of the required qualifications
You now have an “experience library” of your skills and experience that aligns to the most in demand skills.
Use that library to write your résumé.
“IT Support” is too general- so is too general so make sure you are breaking it down into as many searchable key words in your profile and résumé as accurately apply to you.
ADD CONTEXT to the size and scale of the environment you’ve supported. For instance is your experience in companies with 1one office and 10 employees or global companies with 10,000 employees and 100 offices?
Make sure you include that in your résumé Career Summary as well as in your linked profile.
With the massive Ai changes on the horizon, I’m telling all my clients in the most emphatic terms to focus on getting experience in all the Ai tools that are exploding from the ChatGPT/LLM/Ai revolution, especially those that apply to yor job or industry. Candidates WITH thoseskills / terms on their resumes will prevail.
With your background, I might look at companies like ServiceNow that are Ai forward - best of both
Good Luck!
