What level are you now and how many years of full-time experience at an agency do you have?
PMs are def paid more - just did the opposite move and did a bit of research. Thinking you would probably transition to AE or SAE role which would be hard to get past 80. But it also really depends on the Account. If their scope has the money and you’re a valuable asset, you could go lateral. BUT the good thing about Account is that there are so many levels on the ladder, it’s much more likely to climb fast on the pay scale. My salary in Account raised about 30k after 3.5 years.
In general, not sure about your prospects moving to SAE with 2-3 years of experience and not directly in account, but you can definitely go into AE level making slightly less. Then, if you're good as account, you could be making a lot several years later. Think about what you want to be / like to do. Not the money. You'll never be happy or make a lot of money if you're not generally enjoying your profession
Move to a hybrid role first to avoid. Some agencies are trying to merge account and production.
Second @SP1. These can be hybrid roles.
Young in my career but did the opposite. Worked out well but my first role was a hybrid one so I second the comments above
You may not have to take a compensation hit if you move to account, even at technically a lower level. Account people are traditionally paid more than PMs.
I’m a Project Manager with 2 years Agency experience (I worked an additional year in Finance before this), currently earning $90k.
