McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.

Eggs are super cheap protein. Also, I enjoy two meal replacement shakes a day. Helps with weight control and food costs.
As others have said, meal prep and eating out. Buying breakfast and/or lunch every day and eating out a couple times a week is a huge expense. Cutting down on both of those will save you a ton of money. And invest in your company’s 401k, start an index fund, and an IRA of you can. You don’t have to put a ton of money into them right away, but over time it’ll increase
Trader Joe’s
Expense your dinners
This might be the douchiest thing I’ve ever said but...meal prepping
Starbucks everyday is not a necessity
Invest in a index fund early. Try vanguard VOO or VOOG
I tracked how much my husband I ate out in one year and it was over $5k!! Also know that your friends would probably welcome cheap nights in - board game or cards night, an oven pizza and cheap beer for the win. Last suggestion would be to pay attention to the free stuff happening in your city. Good luck! I know that feeling and it sucks.
Do a money diary!! Write down every single time you spend money in a note on your phone. Even a dollar. You’ll find so much dumb shit. At least I did
Alcoholics Anonymous.
Also, cut down on eating out... be surprised how they all add up (trying to remind myself of this also).
TJ’s for dinners, Mealpal for lunch. And if you catch yourself going to the movies a lot, think about getting MoviePass
Download the Acorns app. It rounds up all of the spare change from your card purchases and puts them into an investment account.

I spent almost a full year learning how to cook with rice. No joke. Probably 100+ recipes to do anything and everything with rice. Why? Look at how cheap a 10lb bag of rice is.
I’ve never done it but meal prep
Use Mint.com and track every single purchase you make using the budgets (even Venmo exchanges)
(Water bottle + water fountain) * 12/day = saved $$$
The iBotta app is a rebate app that lets you earn money on staple items from grocery stores and big retailers. Pretty easy to rack up credit. You can transfer $20 at a time to Venmo then transfer to your bank account. Remember to save your receipts and packaging to scan bar codes for cash back.
I second the meal prepping comment. Lunch is expensive af!!
Also bring a flask to expensive bars/clubs and order sodas to supplement. Write down everything you spend so you're conscious of your spending. If you go to group dinners always bring cash so you won't be forced to split the check (obvi if you order less $$). Sometimes saying no to plans can save your wallet and your stress.
