They’d unplug your life support if it saved them $5. You shouldn’t have invested anything in any company that exists to exploit you for financial gain. That’s the relationship you had: that of exploiter and exploited. This is the natural conclusion to that relationship. In fact, you’re lucky you’re getting severance. It’s brutal and unfair but not at all surprising. Let this be a lesson to anyone starting their career.

Not wrong though.
I don’t know you but I do personally know several amazing talented high performers let go this past year for bs “re org” type reasons that were really about politics, favoritism and sr mgt cliques.
Hold your head up. Try to negotiate for better severance and just get out there and make pursuing your connections and opportunities your job.

Google is infamous for its evilness and internal toxicity. As if their old “Don’t be evil” motto would cancel it out.
Sorry this happened to you.
This happened to me, I’m sorry it’s come for you and eventually, it comes for us all. You can negotiate your severance and I encourage you to do so.
This happened to me. It sucks but if you are still there consult an employment attorney and file a complaint with the EEOC and document the situation. This may not change the outcome but it could give you leverage negotiating your severance terms. Also this is the new normal this days. The ongoing layoffs are driving a culture where top performers or competent talent is seen as a threat and pushed out. Most at the top are just protecting their positions for as along they can putting in min effort and waiting for their golden parachute.
