What would you suggest doing? (Beyond just “hire them all”)
They must walk a fine line, in my experience as an intern, and what my last agency did to their interns, was say something along the lines of “we’ve hired interns for fulltime roles in the past” and “we can have that talk when the time comes” so I guess that’s beating around the bush? They stuck to those words. Some interns got hired, and my last shop even hired one when we didn’t have openings cause she was so damn good
Nobody is hiring juniors? Is this an emotional appraisal or do you have facts? If anything, the hiring market isn’t completely back to normal yet but I am seeing jrs getting hired. It’s the seniors who are not getting hired, sometimes for budget reasons, sometimes due to ageism.
Interesting, maybe it’s different depending on the place. I’m in the EU and have seen an overwhelming amount of senior job postings and none for juniors, and have heard from my peers that they’re being told there’s v little budget for juniors right now.
I’m seeing a TON of first job announcements on Linkedin, right now is peak job season for entry level creatives just finishing ad school and willing to work 80 hours a week for $40k a year (peanut wages stateside).
Glad to hear it’s not the same everywhere :)
I asked my ECD for a junior to help with workload and he said “it’s more effort to get what you need out of them than it is to just do it yourself. We’ll think about hiring a mid-senior.” 🤷🏻♀️
Yeah, I was pretty straightforward about it but he wasn’t convinced
I just got hired as a junior, 68K nyc, I had loads of interviews and got a few offers, it didn’t feel like it was a bad time to be looking, but that’s just my personal experience
Whoaaa 68k as a junior? What agency?
