This makes no sense to me. You have two different jobs are they SDE jobs? Why would you waste your time getting a Masters degree when you should be trying to become a good SDE and enhancing your technical skills. Plus have you seen what SDEs make? And the freedom that they have? When you become good you can work on side projects and make additional income and as you progress it will be your experience that will lead you into Management roles not a degree. Even a PMP cert is honestly a waste of time and effort right now when you should be focused on certs that enhances your SDE skills.
My advice, put all your eggs in the SDE basket. Forget the PMP and forget the Masters. You are better off enhancing your skills. I am in Product Management, I have a PMP what I wouldn’t do to go back in time and become a SDE instead…I guess everyone is different.
Yes but it still sounds like you deal with code, it’s deeply technical and a natural transition into software development. If you have developed a liking for PM and find yourself to be “better” at it then by all means pursue that route. I just personally think SDE gives you more flexibility in life and gets you equally paid if not more compared to management roles.
I personally got into management with no masters degree and I could have done it without the PMP as well. I really did take the PMP exam seriously but it just doesn’t really apply to real life scenarios. I didn’t learn a thing that I could use when actually managing projects. Things just come with experience. I believe the same about Masters as well unless you are pursuing something very hands on and technical…
If you want to get into tech, a PMP is worthless. PMP is focused on waterfall. Most tech teams nowadays use agile framework.
