It's cause you make some decent money while you are young. You don't have the free time to spend it so you save it. Then you pivot to something more chill like PE or a debt shop, prove you can still grind it out as an associate there, get promoted to VP and learn the ropes for originating and leadership, then up tier again and coast.
Your early year savings should be enough to pay off college debt (if any) and pay for a down payment on a home. Your eventual carry checks will juice your lifestyle as you round the corner into your golden years. Your retirement will be spent spoiling grandkids and watching your children grow into adults.
Just take a deep breath and don't get too caught up in the little things. You got this.
Did you really just say something more chill like PE? Lol
I just did my 2 yrs at a boutique as an associate. Didn’t make too much as my shop struggled to close mandates for a number of unforeseen reasons. But I learned a ton and will now test the market. I’m looking forward to living now. Anything under 60 hours is welcome lol
80/90 hours??? Ha that was a good joke. Minimum 120 hours and forget having a free weekend
The money isn't even that high especially post MBA. Bulge bracket pay is not significantly more than consulting, strategy or FLDP roles
It's always been that way at the start. You are either playing the long game or looking for the exit opportunities
You seem a bit early in the process. Keep grinding OP
There never was a time when most people wanted to sacrifice their 20’s for money.
How much do you make a year? Take that and figure out your hourly rate. If that number makes you sad, than you should negotiate.
