Any in-house attorneys ever consider going into (or back to) private practice at a firm? What are your pro/con arguments? What terms would you consider most important in your decision to go to a firm? For context - I'm 15 YOE and have worked in government, a very large firm, and most recently in-house. My firm experience wasn't good, but that firm is a machine and doesn't treat attorneys well. Appreciate all the great perspectives from this group.

I work in inside sales selling data center hardware to commercial customers. I have the opportunity to take a new field sales role (w/ same company) selling DC equipment to federal government customers. My concern is that I will be stuck in the Federal space and it will be difficult/impossible to ever pivot back to selling in the commercial space. Would jumping to in-house for a ~40% raise, worth it? It’s a software company that seems a bit dated and boring tbh so I’m worried I’d burn myself out but the pay is attractive. Would it be a bad move to leverage the offer to try to get my current agency to even meet me halfway? We’re doing okay financially now and I’ve been there for a year. I like the work and the people but it’s very disorganized which is beyond frustrating. In-house seems more structured but likely less creative.

Hello, I just had to vent a little and maybe ask for your opinion. So I’ve been working at my job for four years now and I’ve never gotten a promotion. On top of this, I do extra duties that my coworkers don’t do and struggle with the work load. I feel like I’m being taken advantage of and am not sure what to do. I feel like going to my boss and refusing to continue to do these extra tasks without extra compensation. Am I being a baby about this?
