Any one work for Amazon as a contact manager? Also, any opinion on quitting a job as a counsel and taking a contract manager role?

Don't do that. CMs are a step down from counsel roles.

This really depends on what you do now. I know a couple of years ago CMs at Amazon started at $125k base, plus RSUs and bonus. I would assume it is similar or more today. If you do insurance defense or something like that, this would be a step up. I wouldn’t take this if you already have a good counsel role as others have stated.

I was a contracts manager and now counsel. At some, CM and counsel do pretty much the same thing and at some a CM is really chill and basically a project manager. It is heavily dependent on the company and their structure (if CMs are part of the legal department then they likely are similar WLB but if CMs fall under a business unit then it’s likely better WLB. Would need to ask around or during interview to find out.

Don’t do it

Is it specifically because it’s a contract manager role at Amazon or just contract manager roles in general? I’m considering a similar switch (currently in house) but am craving the monotony and predictability that I think a contract manager role brings, at least in comparison to a counsel position.

I am very interested in this answer; thank you. Can you elaborate a little more? By same contracts do you mean it’ll be easier to get a grasp of it because you’ll be seeing the same thing over and over? Are you aware if there is a lot of negotiation going on or generally just signing the contract with a few amendments? Because I’d prefer less actual re-drafting and more routine signing (albeit managing a high volume).

Another question: I am currently in house but don’t deal with contracts very often. Would contract/commercial counsel positions that required 3-5 YOE still consider someone like me because I have in-house experience or have you found that YOE requirement to be stringent? I guess what I am trying to ask is, if I don’t necessarily have the transactional background, would this still be easy/doable to learn on the job?

My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

Hi! I’ve been approached by Securonix for a Sales Director role in NA. I know the field and their competitors. The pay is good but I’ve seen a handful of websites with employee rating that is really bad. Each site has roughly 10 reviews but most are negative. Mostly referring to toxic culture and zero work life balance. How true is this in this sales org and the company in general? This is a backfill role after a 3 year tenure for the person who left.
