Any other ADHD’ers have a lot of trouble watching movies? Every time I sit down to watch a movie I zone out many times throughout and think about other things, then I miss key details in the movie. I also can’t sit still for that long. This happens even when I’m on my meds, any coping mechanisms that have worked for people?

I put on captions and read along, as that helps me focus. If it’s something dumb and not very intense, I’ll play FreeCell on my phone and listen along (I also do this during meetings that I don’t need to participate in—FreeCell is somewhat mindless for me at this point and I actually listen better when I’m not trying to actively listen, if that makes any sense.)

Agreed with the subtitles. Recently I’ve been using them and noticed it’s helped me focus on the movie.

YES omg I have to use a fidget toy or play candy crush even for things I want to watch

Don’t expect perfection from yourself :)

Yes and unless it’s interesting enough to grasp my attention (very few movies) I don’t watch them.

like

I multitask while watching movies, since I wouldn’t be able to focus anyways. Easy to look online if I get confused by what I missed. I avoid going to movie theatres.

like

Oh yeah. I used to be very self conscious of how many “classic” or “must watch” movies I haven’t seen because I just cannot be bothered.

like

Now that we can pause and replay, it takes me an entire day to watch a movie. And they make them really long these days!

Honestly this touches on the very concept of dopamine deficiency. So it’s not abnormal at all

like

I start to get distracted like 15 minutes into a movie nowadays if it hasn't captured my attention already.

like

Do you find this happens while trying to read books too?

like

Unless I’m taking notes haha -

Depends on the movie, if I’ve seen trailers for it and I’m interested in it I’ll be hyper focused. If not then yes

like

I fall alseep and dont remember plot lines! Lol its like watching a movie brand new my bf is jealous

like

Just wait for the tiktoks showing the movie and subways surfer at the same time 😂

I have accepted that I’m not “good” at movies, but if I fancy watching one, I watch it in 30 minute chunks or I crochet at the same time. :)

It's to the point where I have to put my phone in the other room or otherwise I'm doomed for distraction.

During the pandemic I dove into my self care (found a therapist, learned I was having seizures and got on meds for that). My journey has been difficult and not pretty to watch. Somewhere along the line I feel like my fiancé saw too much. I no longer feel like romantic parters and instead feel like we have a “caretaker/patient” type relationship. I don’t feel sexy or attractive anymore. I talked to him about this and he feels bad. But I feel guilty for bringing it up. Anyone else had this issue?

Took my first ever sick day today on account of my very poor and worsening mental health. Just could not bring myself to put in another 14 hour day with back to back meetings and constant activity. For those also going through this, any tips on how you manage yourself day to day? What self talk tends to help?

SM on my project stepped away on paternity leave. SM was the one who led partner discussions and most of the client meetings. We're a week from a client deadline.

As a manager, I'm stepping but incredibly stress with the amount of moving parts. I don't have a strong rapport with the partner (Neither did the SM) to be open and transparent on how stressful I'm feeling without downgrading myself.

I'm sick to the stomach and very anxious, stressed at the suddenness of the thrust.

Hello All - I struggle with time management. I take medication but I have no idea whether a task will take 40 mins or 4 hours. Because of this, I over commit and under deliver. Also, having been on the receiving end of criticism, over time I have developed a perfectionist streak. I won't turn it in if it is good enough. How do you break out of this habit?

Any resources to help the brain structure tasks and make better estimates? Much appreciated, thanks!

First day of 30mg vyvanse today. Had a rush of energy and hyperfocus (too much so) about 2-4 hours in, but had a complete crash 5hrs after taking the pill (just a wave of fatigue, felt very good after a quick 15min nap actually) and not sure if it had any effect after. Is this normal? Should I stick it out for a few days or is this a big sign that I’m not on the right meds/dose? Nervous to keep trialling this during the workday since a midday crash is not ideal. Appreciate any advice!

One example of personal experience is my ongoing prep for case studies as I'm interviewing with a number of firms.
